Gary Flenoy
National Accounts Service Manager
As a National Accounts Service Manager, I’m responsible for calling on national stores like McCoy’s and Home Depot. I also manage the inventory at about ten distribution centers.
The thing that I like most about my job is the freedom to learn what's actually going on in the marketplace – instead of just sitting behind a desk. I enjoy getting to visit jobsites to see how our products are performing and what the competition is doing. We learn so much just by talking to our customers.
After working at Temple-Inland for 30 years, I can truly say that it feels like being part of a family. I work with people who are not only concerned about me as an employee, but also as a person.
Beth Hindman
Safety Coordinator
During my 16 years at Temple-Inland, I've worked my way up through all the jobs in the mill. I've been on the floor with these people for a long time, and now, I have the opportunity to make things safer for them.
My favorite part of this job is getting to talk to every employee on a daily basis. I'm able to listen to their concerns about safety and then provide them with solutions – whether it's different protective gear, additional training or changes in their work areas. I enjoy helping them go home safely every day.
Overall, I feel a special commitment to the people that work here. I've known them for years. Our children have grown up together. And everyone feels like family.
Jose Lozano
Machine Operator
For 25 years now, I have worked for Temple-Inland as a machine operator. I'm responsible for producing corrugated paper boxes and managing a two-person crew: my first helper and a stacker.
The best part of my day is when I get the machine running full speed – when I have full control of quality and productivity, and everything is going well. That's when I feel like I've done my best for a particular order.
I like that the people here have a lot of experience and really enjoy the work. We are always challenged by the idea of producing better than anybody else and achieving or exceeding customer expectations.
John Overbeck
Field Sales Manager, Southern California
The reason I think people are attracted to Temple-Inland is because they want to be the best. They want to be part of a winning team. In fact, that's why I joined the company four years ago.
My role as a field sales manager is to get in front of customers, support our sales groups and bring the necessary information back to the plant that helps us move forward and be a winner. But what I love the most is the customer contact. I get to see different customers every day and experience just a little bit of their lives.
In addition, it's very exciting for me when a salesperson succeeds. The sales process can be long and difficult, so when it all comes together and results in an order, there's a true celebration.
Wayne Morgan
Manager, Bogalusa Mill
As manager of the Temple-Inland Bogalusa Mill, I'm in charge of our plant's safety, quality and productivity, as well as cost control and employee development. I've been with the company for four years.
My favorite part of the job is the people part. I enjoy seeing the employees take on more responsibility and be successful in their careers. It's very rewarding to provide them with leadership opportunities, so we can all be the best in what we do.
When it comes down to it, we are family here in Bogalusa. The mill is the main employer in town. And we feel that it's our responsibility to take care of the community. When we succeed, the whole community succeeds.
Jim Cumbie
Human Resources Director, Panel Product Division
My job is to support the HR needs of our 11 manufacturing facilities. This includes things like employee relations, labor relations and benefit administration. Of course, I also do my part to resolve disputes and serve as a liaison between the employees and the management team.
After 20 years with the company, I still enjoy trying to do things better. We don't rest on the status quo here. Within the HR group, we're always reviewing processes, policies and procedures, and looking for ways to do things better than we did the day before.
Ultimately, I love working at Temple-Inland because you can truly make a difference, regardless of your position. Everyone has a voice, and we always try to do the right thing.
Phil Keaton
Safety Facilitator
My responsibility as a safety facilitator is to oversee our safety committee, which has members from each department. We meet twice a month to review our observations of the mill's operations. Our goal is to track and, hopefully, prevent any incidences.
The interesting thing is that I work in the middle ground. I'm a liaison between employees, supervisors, the maintenance safety manager and the HR manager. I have to convey information up and down the chain of command, and be respected as a leader.
In my 15 years at Temple-Inland, I've had so many opportunities to solve problems. I think it has helped build my character and made me a better person. I'm proud to work here, and I'm proud of the people that work next to me.
Timothy Machac
Outside Sales, Industrial Particle Board
I really like that my job is all about spending time with customers. I get to meet them face to face, find out what's important to them and help them grow their business. At the same time, I'm helping our own company be more profitable.
Essentially, I get to be the face of Temple-Inland. A lot of customers may never see our facilities or talk to anyone else, so it's all up to me. I enjoy helping them feel comfortable and doing whatever it takes to help them succeed.
After 11 years of working here, I've come to appreciate all the opportunities for growth. You can definitely make your mark on the company, exceed expectations and go further than you've ever gone before.
Ruby Gordon
Mailroom Supervisor
I have worked in the mailroom at Temple-Inland for 36 years, and am in charge of shipping packages to all of our locations.
In my job, customer service is everything. We do the best that we can to secure our customers' confidence. We carefully plan our shipments and take responsibility for getting the packages to their destinations, on time, when the customers need them.
My favorite part of the job is that 100% of the time, our customers get their packages. This is a win for me, my team and the company as a whole.
Alan Jones
Operations Manager, Solid Wood Group
Although I joined Temple-Inland seven years ago, I have been in wood products industry for more than 30 years. Our company has a great reputation for the way we do business, and it makes me proud to work here.
My job is to oversee the daily operations of three of our lumber mills. I work with the plant managers to understand their issues, identify how I can help in terms of resources and ensure that we share best practices. In addition, we are always focused on safety.
The best part of my day is getting to see a team be successful – whether it's improving upon a safety record or achieving high throughput. It's incredible to see their pride, and I'll do whatever I can to help them succeed.
Melissa Wiegand
Technical Environmental Manager
As a technical environmental manager, I'm responsible for ensuring that our mill meets all environmental regulations. I'm involved with our chemical purchases, quality processes and wastewater treatment.
It's very exciting to work at a 100% post-consumer waste recycle mill. In addition to promoting our recycled paper to customers, I get to represent Temple-Inland in meetings with the EPA. We are a member of their National Environmental Performance Track.
My favorite part of the job is the people. There's so much energy out on the floor, and everybody has such great ideas. I really enjoy working in such a positive environment.
