Temple-Inland Introduces Abuse-, Damage-Resistant Gypsum Board

DIBOLL, Texas - In response to the high cost of maintaining public areas in stores, offices and institutions, Temple-Inland introduces Damage Guard AR/IR, gypsum board products that stand up to just about any punishment.

To assure high-performance standards, Damage Guard AR (abuse resistant) was designed with an extra-durable face paper to withstand scuffs and abrasions in high-traffic areas of facilities such as schools and day care centers.

Damage Guard IR (impact resistant) has the same abuse-resistant features of AR, plus a special backing to keep impacts from penetrating walls. Both contain core densities which have been enhanced for extra strength and heat resistance.

Stephen Raley, Temple-Inland marketing manager for Gypsum Products, is excited by the initial response in the marketplace. He says, “Builders and architects have long recognized the economy of gypsum wallboard installation versus the expense of masonry. Now, with Damage Guard, they can have a high-traffic wall solution with an equally high-quality surface.”

Both AR and IR are 5/8” fire-rated panels which have been tested for surface abrasion, surface indentation and hard-body and soft-body impact resistance with superior results, while meeting ASTM C1396 and Federal Specification SS-L-30d, Type II, Grade X, Class 1 standards.

Damage Guard is manufactured in 4-foot widths and in 8- to 12-foot lengths. It’s designed to score, snap and fasten as easily as traditional gypsum wallboard. Custom widths, edges and lengths are available by special order, contingent on lead time and minimum order requirements.

As with every Temple-Inland gypsum wallboard product, Damage Guard face paper is 100% recycled and both products are available with a synthetic gypsum core for an environmentally conscious option.

Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) has formally certified that Temple-Inland’s wallboard products, manufactured with a synthetic gypsum core, are created with recycled content using a byproduct of pollution-control technology from the energy generation process. This certification highlights Temple-Inland’s commitment to setting new standards for environmental responsibility.

Temple-Inland produces a wide variety of building materials including lumber, studs, gypsum wallboard, engineered wood siding and trim, fiberboard sheathing, particleboard and MDF.
