DIBOLL, Texas (Aug 17, 2009) – Temple-Inland® has introduced two new products to the ComfortGuard® product line that can keep abuse, mold and moisture from putting a dent in your next project… ComfortGuard Abuse-Resistant and ComfortGuard Impact-Resistant Gypsum Board.
“We’re very excited about combining the performance properties of our popular ComfortGuard product line with the extra measure of toughness and durability an abuse- or impact-resistant product provides for high-traffic areas,” says Stephen Raley, Vice President, Gypsum.
Both ComfortGuard AR and IR feature the TemShield® Mold Protection System and ease of installation you expect from ComfortGuard gypsum board. When tested in accordance with ASTM D3273, the standard test for mold resistance, ComfortGuard AR and IR scored a perfect 10 of out 10 in laboratory evaluations. Plus, they greatly improve a wall’s ability to withstand surface abuse and impact.
ComfortGuard AR has an extra-durable face paper to withstand scuffs and abrasions in high-traffic areas. It is also manufactured with an enhanced core density that provides extra strength and heat resistance. Typical applications include: schools, daycares, assisted living facilities, hospitals, public housing, office buildings and recreation centers.
ComfortGuard IR starts with the same performance properties as ComfortGuard AR – plus it has a special backing to keep impacts from penetrating the wall cavity. It’s ideal when you need even more protection in high-traffic areas. Typical applications include: dormitories, assisted living residences, prisons, gymnasiums, banks and military facilities.
ComfortGuard AR and IR both provide substantial fire resistance that’s key for many projects today. The 5/8" Type X panels are suitable for use in a wide range of fire-resistant assemblies and can provide a fire rating of one or more hours, depending upon the specific assembly in which they are applied.
Available in a 5/8" thickness, a 48" width and lengths of 8' to 12', ComfortGuard AR and IR add significant strength and durability to high-traffic environments without adding the extra costs associated with other damage-resistant options.
