Scientific Certification Systems
Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) has awarded Temple-Inland’s plant in El Dorado, Arkansas certification for producing products using recovered and recycled materials. The certification covers UltraStock Select, Premium, Lite and UltraStock-Free MDF, as well as the Solidium MDF, Mill Run MDF and Utility MDF produced at this facility. These products are certified to have 82% pre-consumer recycled fiber on a dry-weight basis.
Our MDF is created from the reclaimed shavings, chips and other residue of several sawmills. By using these materials, we keep it out of landfills and also achieve maximum usability from every tree that is harvested.
Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP)
The UltraStock Select, Premium and Moisture-Resistant MDF products produced in Temple-Inland’s Mt. Jewett, Pennsylvania facility are available on special order with a Composite Panel Association’s certification of compliance to the Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) specification standard CPA 3-08 verifying a recycled and/or recovered fibers content of 100%.
In addition, this certification verifies UltraStock MDF products conform to the mechanical properties of ANSI 208.2.
Forest Stewardship Council Certification
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has certified that the manufacturing processes at Temple-Inland's MDF operations in Mt. Jewett, Pennsylvania comply with the requirements for the production of FSC-certified product. Certain products produced at these facilities are available with the FSC certification. This certification is due to the systems we have in place to track the fiber that comes from certified forests and keep it physically separated from noncertified fibers. By ensuring that fibers are tracked and properly sorted, we can demonstrate verifiable evidence of compliance with FSC guidelines for chain-of-custody and controlled wood recognition.

SCS is an independent third-party certifier. SCS was established in 1984 as the nation's first third-party certifier for testing pesticide residues in fresh produce. In the past 15 years, the company has evolved to become a certifier of multiple facets of the food industry and of the environmentally sound management of forests, marine habitats, and a wide variety of businesses.

The Composite Panel Association (CPA) is the North American trade association for producers of particleboard, MDF, hardboard and other compatible products. Compliance to the CPA’s Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) standard is certified through its internationally recognized and accredited Grademark Certification Program.
This logo signifies products or manufacturing procedures that have been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. Temple-Inland is proud to display this logo on its products and sales materials.

It provides standard setting, trademark assurance and accreditation services for companies and organizations interested in responsible forestry. Products carrying the FSC label are independently certified to assure consumers that they come from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.
