Temple-Inland has been producing gypsum board that meets or exceeds all applicable codes and standards since the 1960’s. More than that, we’re committed to meeting and exceeding your expectations for product quality as well as environmental responsibility.
Originally produced entirely from pure gypsum mined in our Oklahoma quarry, now over 85% of Temple-Inland’s current gypsum board production capacity is manufactured with recycled content gypsum. That’s a level you won’t find anywhere else.
Plus, the process that produces the recycled content gypsum we use annually converts almost 2 million tons of material that would have otherwise been considered waste into a product of high value.
In fact, Temple-Inland’s regular board product (manufactured in Fletcher, OK, West Memphis, Arkansas and Cumberland City, Tennessee) is certified in accordance to ISO 14021 standards to contain at least 99% recycled material on a dry weight basis. And the recycled content of other products produced at these facilities is certified to be at least 95% on a dry weight basis.
Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) has third-party verified these recycled content levels for products produced at our Cumberland City, Tennessee and West Memphis, Arkansas facilities.
The synthetic gypsum we use in our West Memphis, Arkansas, and Cumberland City, Tennessee, facilities is created from byproducts of the energy generation process at the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Cumberland plant. Besides being a chemical equivalent to natural gypsum, it’s one of the purest forms of synthetic gypsum available and it maintains a consistently smaller particle size than other raw material resources.
Finally, in addition to reducing our need for mined gypsum, Temple-Inland board manufactured with recycled gypsum content contributes valuable credits in various green-building rating systems.
