Gypsum Recycled Content

What are the Benefits

Recycled Content Gypsum Provides?

Manufacturing gypsum board products with recycled gypsum content offers a variety of benefits. Some simply make you feel good. Others make your job simpler. All seven make Temple-Inland gypsum board products a better alternative for your next project.

1. Contribute LEED rating system credits

As construction emphasizing materials with recycled content becomes increasingly important, our certified recycled content can contribute considerably toward LEED credit MR 4.1 (materials with recycled content) and, in many areas of the U.S., to LEED credit MR 5.1 (regional and local materials).

2. Meet or exceed the same standards as traditional gypsum board

Maintaining the same standards for performance, application and durability as traditional gypsum board products, board manufactured with certified recycled content delivers the high standards you require and the “green” benefits you desire.

3. Exceptional consistency

Starting with a high-purity, highly consistent raw material allows us to produce a finished product that offers consistent application and uniform finishing.

4. Reduced need for mined gypsum

Thanks to an agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority, we have a reliable supply of synthetic gypsum for years to come that significantly reduces our need for mined gypsum.

5. Reduced waste added to landfills

This process annually converts 1.2 million tons of otherwise waste material into a product of value.

6. Reduced sulfur emissions

The energy generation process that produces the synthetic gypsum also reduces sulfur emissions, a precursor to acid rain, by 96%.

7. More efficient use of forest resources

Because the face paper on both sides of our board created with a recycled content gypsum core is made from post-consumer recycled paper, no virgin fiber is required to manufacture this product.
