GreenGlass Fiberglass Gypsum Roof Board

GreenGlass®

Roof Board

GreenGlass roof board is a fiberglass-faced, noncombustible, nonstructural gypsum panel designed to satisfy the requirements of commercial roofing systems as a cover board, thermal and/or fire barrier. In reroofing applications, it serves as a recovery board, providing a clean, flat substrate for new membrane application. As an underlayment, it provides excellent fire and thermal barrier protection. GreenGlass features a mold- and moisture-resistant gypsum core sandwiched between naturally mold- and moisture-resistant fiberglass facers. And like all GreenGlass products, it also offers a standard-setting minimum of 90% certified recycled gypsum content that can contribute toward credits in multiple green building rating systems.

Two Product Variations:

GreenGlass Roof Board - This product variation is produced with an uncoated, fiberglass-mat surface and enhanced mold- and moisture-resistant core.

GreenGlass Primed Roof Board - This product variation is manufactured with the same fiberglass-mat facers and enhanced core, but adds a special, moisture-blocking acrylic surface coating.

Features:

  • TemShield Mold Protection System engineered into our gypsum core which is sandwiched between naturally mold-resistant fiberglass facers (This combination has been shown to score a 10, the highest possible value, when tested in accordance with ASTM D3273, the standard test for mold resistance)
  • Primed roof board adds moisture-blocking acrylic coating to resist water penetration and improves adhesive application in many adhered systems
  • Available in 1/4" (6.4 mm) and 1/2" (12.7mm) thicknesses as well as a fire-resistant 5/8" (15.9 mm) thickness
  • 5/8"-thick panels have been awarded a comprehensive Class A fire rating by Underwriters Laboratories and Factory Mutual Approvals
  • SCS certified to contain a minimum of 90% recycled gypsum content on a dry-weight basis
  • Third-party certified to meet the performance standard for CHPS program low-emitting material recognition

Special Order Information:

Other widths, edges and lengths may be available on special order with established minimums and lead time. Some products may not be available in all markets. Please check with your local Temple-Inland sales representative.

Limitations:

GreenGlass roof board and GreenGlass Primed roof board are manufactured for use as part of a properly designed and installed roof system. In an attempt to avoid issues that would inhibit product performance, Temple-Inland recommends a number of installation limitations be considered by the roof system designer.

Mold and Moisture Resistance:

Produced with the TemShield Mold Protection System engineered into its gypsum core, GreenGlass roof board and GreenGlass Primed roof board are faced on both sides with naturally mold-resistant fiberglass mats. This combination has been shown to score a 10, the highest value possible, when tested in accordance with ASTM D3273, the standard test for mold resistance.

In addition, the acrylic surface coating of GreenGlass Primed roof board reduces moisture absorption and pass-through to an even higher degree to minimize the risk of potential roof structure damage and decay.

Fire Resistance:

When tested in accordance with ASTM E136, GreenGlass demonstrated the characteristics of a noncombustible material. Its flame spread and smoke developed values were both 0 based on testing as per ASTM E84.

As a result of such fire-resistant performance, Underwriters Laboratories and Factory Mutual Approvals (ASTM E108) have awarded GreenGlass a comprehensive Class A (UL 790) fire rating.

Low VOC-Emitting Material:

Temple-Inland gypsum board products are third-party certified by Materials Analytical Services, LLC (MAS) to meet the performance standard established for low-emitting materials under the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) Program.

Sulfur Emissions Testing:

In emissions level testing for carbon disulfide and carbonyl sulfide conducted by Materials Analytical Services (MAS), Temple-Inland gypsum board was determined to be negative for sulfur off-gassing and is not considered a problematic corrosive drywall type.

Storage:

Gypsum board should be carried, never dragged, to prevent damaging the finished edges. When storing gypsum boards, store them indoors and protect them from weather and direct sunlight. Boards should be stored lying flat and neatly stacked. Care should be taken to prevent sagging or damage to edges, ends and surfaces. Placing boards against framing is not recommended.
