Temple-Inland fiberboard is a medium-density, semi-rigid building material composed of wood fibers and binders compressed under heat and pressure into large panels of various sizes. Lightweight and cost efficient, it has been a reliable part of the construction industry for almost fifty years.
Temple-Inland fiberboard is manufactured with a range of performance characteristics for many different applications:
Exterior Wall Sheathing
For builders and home buyers on a tight budget, fiberboard sheathing provides rigid reliability, insulation value and sound-deadening properties at a low cost. It is easy to handle and cut, and can be applied quickly using basic tools. Fiberboard is also permeable – it allows water vapor that forms in wall cavities to escape outwards, increasing a structure’s resistance to rot, mold and other moisture-related damage. In addition to the benefits provided by our regular sheathing board, FiberBrace structural wall sheathing provides code-recognized wall bracing strength.
Roofing Substrate
Fiber Base HD is specifically designed as a roofing substrate for a wide variety of roofing systems – from traditional built-up roofs to the latest single-ply systems. Available fully coated, coated one-side and uncoated, Fiber Base HD provides the ideal surface for membrane bonding and system durability.
Noise Control
SoundChoice sound-deadening fiberboard is manufactured for homes, apartments, schools, offices, hospitals or other applications where noise reduction is required. This uncoated fiberboard is specifically designed to reduce sound transmission through partitions, surrounding walls, ceilings and floors.
Temple-Inland fiberboard is made from green wood chips and other wood byproducts of southern pine sawmills. The chips are cooked under heat and pressure, reduced to a fibrous pulp that is formed into a mat and drained of water. After drying, the mat is trimmed to size (usually 4’ x 8’). Some panels are coated with asphalt for use as exterior sheathing or roof insulation board. Others are left uncoated for use in interior sound control applications.
Temple-Inland fiberboard is available to builders, roofing contractors and consumers through building material dealers, wholesalers and dealer co-ops.
