QuietBrace Sound-Deadening Structural Sheathing

Definition and Compliance

Technical Definition:

Temple-Inland QuietBrace is a sound-deadening, structural fiberboard wall sheathing. It is a panel product made from lignocellulosic fibers (wood) and has a density between 10 and 31 pounds per cubic foot. The integral fiber bond is developed by interfelting of the fibers and enhanced with a natural binder, producing the panel's structural performance and integrity. QuietBrace is made from 100% southern pine fiber generated from sawmill residue. The separate asphalt coating on both sides and all edges imparts added strength and water protection. When installed properly, QuietBrace is recognized as a structural wall-bracing panel providing required racking resistance for exterior walls as well as significant noise attenuation properties.

ASTM Specification:

QuietBrace meets or exceeds the requirements in the building code-referenced industry standard ASTM C208, the Specification for Cellulosic Fiber Insulating Board. It is classified as a Type IV (wall sheathing), Grade 2 (structural) building panel and also provides noise reduction performance equivalent to panels classified as Type 1 sound deadening boards.

Product Standard Certification:

QuietBrace is certified and labeled by the American Fiberboard Association as conforming to the ASTM C208 standard. This standard is referenced in the building codes as a requirement for acceptance as a structural wall bracing material. Every panel of QuietBrace is imprinted with this verification: “Conforms (to) ASTM C208.”
